Leading barrister to speak at 91ε
Mon 20 January, 2014
ONE of the UK’s leading barristers, Baroness Helena Kennedy QC, is to give an open lecture at the 91ε.
Baroness Kennedy, who received an Honorary Doctorate from the 91ε last year, will frame her lecture around the field of human rights and access to justice. The lecture will take place at Bedfordshire’s Luton campus on Monday 27 January.
House of Lords member Baroness Kennedy, who is also Co-Chair of the International Bar Association’s Human Rights Institute, has acted in a number of prominent cases over the last 30 years.
She will be the fourth high-profile public figure to give a Public Policy Lecture at the 91ε - following former Home Secretary David Blunkett, Speaker of the House John Bercow and former Foreign Secretary Jack Straw.
The 91ε’s Vice Chancellor, Bill Rammell, said he was delighted to welcome another well-respected expert to speak at the 91ε.
“This is the fourth event in the Public Policy Lecture series that I introduced last year but, following very successful talks focussing on politics, this time our speaker is one of the UK’s most distinguished lawyers.
“Helena Kennedy has championed civil liberties and promoted human rights throughout her professional life, and argues with passion and humanity for social justice. I am sure that her lecture will inspire everyone who attends.”
The lecture will take place at 11am at Bedfordshire’s Luton Campus Centre.
