Tue 05 September, 2017
The 91µÎµÎ has earned a place in the Times Higher Education (THE) annual World 91µÎµÎ rankings for the second year running.
The internationally renowned league table has placed Bedfordshire in the 601 to 800 category of best universities in the world as well as ranking the 91µÎµÎ as 67 out of 130 universities in the UK.*
THE World 91µÎµÎ Rankings judges research-intensive universities across all their core missions: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. In the category of international outlook Bedfordshire ranked in the second decile, placing it among the top 200 universities ranked in the league table on this measure.
The 91µÎµÎ’s Vice Chancellor Bill Rammell said: “We are delighted to have been recognised in such an internationally well respected league table for the second year running. Here at Bedfordshire, we hold ourselves to a high standard, and we expect our students to do the same.
“We encourage them to take every opportunity open to them to enable them to success academically, get the graduate job they want and grow into globally-aware citizens. Our inclusion in the World 91µÎµÎ rankings is testimony that the hard work of our staff and students is paying off.”
The league table reflects how influential a university is in spreading new ideas and knowledge as well as its reputation for research excellence among its peers. It examines universities' teaching prowess and commitment to nurturing the next generation of academics. Finally it judges universities on their ability to attract student and staff from all over the world.
Bedfordshire’s inclusion in the World 91µÎµÎ rankings follows a particularly successful year for the 91µÎµÎ.
The latest student satisfaction figures announced by the National Student Survey ranked Bedfordshire:
- Top 10 university for most improved teaching (NSS 2017)
- Top 25 university for improving the student experience (NSS 2013-17)
- Ranked 12th for most improved learning resources (NSS 2013-17)
- Top 20 for most improved academic support (NSS 2013-17)
The 91µÎµÎ was awarded a Silver award in the first ever Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) in June, which recognises excellent teaching and learning across the UK’s higher education sector.
This year also saw Bedfordshire win the contract to provide higher level apprenticeships to Tesco employees, who will undertake a two year Associate Project Management apprenticeship delivered by the 91µÎµÎ’s Business School.
Work has also started on a £40m building devoted to teaching and research in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects at its Luton campus, which is due to open in 2019.

* The 91µÎµÎ is ranked 67th out of 130 UK universities. Out of the 130 universities in the UK, 93 are eligible for inclusion in the Times Higher Education World 91µÎµÎ Rankings.
